High School Basketball: Hilton Head Island boys, Bluffton and May River girls get region wins
Gaston Moore scored 15 points,as Hilton Head Island boys opened up region play with a 58-52 win over Bluffton.
The Seahawks led 30-23 at halftime.
Dean Seelbach and Sam Summa each added 11 for HHI.
Lee Kirkland led Bluffton with 16 points and Tyler Rice had 14
Colleton County 86, Beaufort 75
Zyrin Odom and Daniel Phares each had double-doubles in the loss for Beaufort.
Odom had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Phares had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Jamaad Rivers had 14 points, Rush Riley 12 and Oliver Holmes 11. Beaufort (5-12, 0-1) hosts Hilton Head Island on Friday.
Hilton Head Prep 82, John Paul II 38
The Dolphins moved to 4-0 in region play with a win over the Warriors.
HHP jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter and led 42-16.
Tyrone Calloway led HHP with 38 points. Sophomore Ryan Mikell made his first start of the season and poured in 13 points.
Beaufort Academy 45, Thomas Heyward 35
Dawson Coleman poured in a game-high 32 points in the Eagles’ victory.
BA (6-5, 1-2) hosts Colleton Prep on Friday.
Ridgeland-Hardeeville 56, May River 34
Mauriq Singleton scored 13 points and had nine rebounds in the Jaguars’ win over the Sharks.
R-H led 23-14 at halftime.
Girls
Bluffton 30, Hilton Head Island 24
Brionna Anderson scored four points in a pivotal stretch in the fourth quarter to help the Bobcats to a region-opening win over the Seahawks.
HHI, which trailed 21-19 after three quarters, took the lead on back-to-back baskets by Chyna Fields and Kenzie Ray. But Anderson and the Bobcats answwered with four straight and held the Seahawks without a field goal over the final five minutes
Tatyana Aiken led Buffton with eight points and Tacoya Heyward had seven.
Ray led HHI with 11 points.
Colleton County 35, Beaufort 28 (OT)
The Eagles lost their region opener in overtime Tuesday.
Layla Warren led Beaufort with 19 points.
May River 46, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 16
The Sharks outscored the Jaguars, 17-0, in the third quarter for the region win.
Morgan Kninlaw-Scott led MR with 10 points and Gracyn Drury had eight.
Beaufort Academy 55, Thomas Heyward 15
The Eagles moved to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in region play with the win over the Rebels.
John Paul II 25, Hilton Head Prep 22
Abby Quinty scored 12 points and the Warriors won a defensive battle against the Dolphins.
Ella Clark led HHP with six points.
