Hilton Head Island hoops sweep Battery Creek

Hilton Head (9-6) extended its winning streak to five games with a 39-34 win at Battery Creek on Wednesday night.

Avenging an early season defeat to Battery Creek, Miley Ray led the Seahawks with 18 points, including three 3-pointers in the third quarter. Janiya Ferebee chipped in seven points and Kenzie Ryan had six points.

Starr Reed led the Dolphins with eight points.

Boys

Hilton Head Island 52, Battery Creek 41

Hilton Head outscored Battery Creek, 19-6, in the third quarter in the win Wednesday night.

Sam Summa led the Seahawks with 17 points and Gaston Moore had 11.Amoni Waring scored 14 to lead Battery Creek.

Running

Polar Bear Run and Walk

The 2020 Bluffton Polar Bear Run & Health Walk is Jan. 18 at 9am.

The festive event starts at Oyster Factory Park taking runners and walkers through the streets of Old Towne Bluffton.

The 5K Run and Fitness Walk will be chip timed. Awards will be presented to the top overall and age group finishers. In addition to the 5K, there will also be a 1-Mile Fun Run and a Health and Dog Walk. The event also includes Post Race Celebration at Bluffton Trading Post with Award Ceremony, Door Prizes, Hoppin’ John, $5 beers music and more.

Pets, strollers and baby joggers are encouraged. More than 200 runners including children are expected to participate in the Polar Bear Run. A percentage of proceeds will benefit May River High School National Honor Society.

Miscellaneous

Athletic Club of Lowcountry Meeting

The January meeting of the Athletic Club of the Lowcountry is set for Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served prior to the meeting starting at 6:00 p.m. Social interactions will be available during this time until the meeting is called to order. The speaker for this month’s meeting will be former football coach John Gregory.

Gregory has coached in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League during his career. He won Grey Cup championship with Saskatchewan Roughriders and coached with Hamilton TigerCats.

Members of the Athletic Club of the Lowcountry and guests are welcome to attend. Guests should call Judy Barry at (843) 705-5223 to register your intention to attend the meeting.
