Beaufort boys rally, Hilton Head and Bluffton earn sweeps in Friday hoops action

Beaufort rallied from a 13-point third quarter deficit to defeat Battery Creek, 44-43, on Friday in boys high school basketball action.

Ollie Holmes led the Eagles with 17 points and Zyrin Odom chipped in with nine. Beaufort (3-2) is at Ridgeland/Hardeeville on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hilton Head Island 60, Hilton Head Prep 44

The Seahawks picked up their first win of the season.

Luke Bennett led Prep with 12 points. Tyrone Calloway and Stone McDonald each had 11 points. HHP travels to Memorial Day on Wednesday.

Bluffton 54, May River 52

The Bobcats held off a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Sharks and improved to 3-1.

Tyler Rice led Bluffton with 14, Lee Kirkland added 11 points and Eric Eastham had 10.

Bluffton led by 11 points in the fourth before the Sharks went on a 7-0 run to cut it to 50-46 with a minute left. But May River couldn’t off a last-second shot to tie.

Harry Cash led May River with 17 points. Junior Jakii Morrow scored 12.

John Paul 45, Habersham 42

The Warriors held off Habersham in a defensive battle.

Mark Knight led JPII with 18 points and five steals, Jeremiah Young added 10 points and four assists.

JPII (2-0) travels to Andrew Jackson Academy on Monday.

Beaufort Academy 70, Royal Oaks 16

The BA boys won in the first round of its tournament Friday.

The Eagles were led by Brandon Trapp with 14 points, Elijah Fess had 12 and Dawson Coleman with 11.

Girls

Hilton Head 40, Hilton Head Prep 27

Hilton Head High moved to 2-0 with a win over visiting Hilton Head Prep.

Miley Ray led all scorers with 17 points and added 15 rebounds for the Seahawks, while Chyna Fields added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Ella Clark led the Dolphins with 13.

Hilton Head High led 26-11 at halftime.

Bluffton 56, May River 17

Tatyana Aiken and Tacoya Heyward combined for 35 points in Bluffton’s win.

Aiken scored 21 and Heyward had 14 for the Bobcats, who used a 16-0 run to put the game away.

Chynna Sneed led May River with 10.

Beaufort 38, Battery Creek 26

The Lady Eagles were Sequoia Smalls with 14 points and Layla Warren with 10 points

Nyja Deville had six points and a strong presence on the offensive and defensive boards.

John Paul 50, Habersham 32

JP II controlled the boards and defeated Habersham.

Playing in only three quarters, Tkai DeVore had another big night with 23 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.

Bella Termin added seven points and Abby Quinty pulled down seven rebounds.

Beaufort Academy 75, Royal Oaks 3

Beaufort Academy moved into the title game of its tournament with a dominating win Friday.

Amelia Huebel led the way with 21 points and Mike’Ala Washington had 11. Ten different Eagles players scored.
