High School Roundup: May River basketball sweeps Beaufort

May River held off a late Beaufort rally for a 61-58 win Tuesday in boys high school basketball action.

The Sharks led by 16 points with five minutes left before the Eagles cut it to one with 10 seconds left. Beaufort missed a 3-pointer to tie it.

Harry Cash led May River with 13 points/ Gavin Blocker scored 12 and Jason Epke-Bueso had 10.

Ollie Holmes led Beaufort with 17 points. Rush Riley had 14 and Zyrin Odom had 6 points and 11 rebounds.

Beaufort Academy 97, Presbyterian Christian 31

Braydon Dineen scores 16 points, and Thomas Holladay added 15 for Beaufort Academy.

Dawson Coleman had 13 for the Eagles, who host the BA Classic this Friday and Saturday

Hilton Head Prep 63, Frederica Academy 39

The Dolphins moved to 3-1 on the season.

Tyrone Calloway scored 13 of his 24 points in the third and didn’t play the fourth quarter. Stone McDonald added 17 points.

Girls Basketball

Hilton Head 55, Wade Hampton 41

Kenzie Ryan scored 21 points as Hilton Head Island won its opener over Wade Hampton.

The Seahawks trailed by as many as eight points in the second half before rallying to win. HHI was 9-of-9 from the free-throw line in the second and held WH to six points in the fourth quarter.

Miley Ray had 16 points and Emma Moore added eight

May River 46, Beaufort 28

Gracyn Drury scored 12 points and Jordan Bigham had 10 for May River in the win over Beaufort.

Layla Warren led Beaufort with 14 points.

Beaufort Academy 69, First Presbyterian 13

Amelia Huebel scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds in BA’s season-opening win.

Tahleea Heyward added 14 points, Mike’Ala Washington had nine and Emily Ann Heirs scored eight.

Wrestling

Beaufort competes at Summerville Quad

The Beaufort Eagles Wrestling Team opened the season going 2-1 in the Summerville Quad. They opened with a loss to Summerville by a score of 54-28, but then rebounded by defeating Hanahan 48-36 and Swansea 54-30.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Theo Washington (220) as he went 3-0 on the night with three pins. Matthew Durrance (145) was 2-0 with 2 pins and Michael Cenci (170) was also 2-0 on the night with 1 pin. Newcomers Brenden Glover (160) scored 2 victories with 2 pins, Terrence Wilson (285) was 2-0 with a pin while Devon Langfeldt (195), Colton Phares (152), Josh Warren (138) and Adam Burvenich (152) all scored pins during the night.

Football

Lowcountry players picked for SCISA North-South games

Hilton Head Christian’s Hayden Shinn and Robert Hall, John Paul II’s Reco Anderson and Josh Horton were picked for th SCISA North-South All-Star football game.

Beaufort Academy’s Jacob Union and William Tumlin were picked for the 8-man game.

The 11-man game is Friday at Heathwood Hall in Columbia at 6 p.m. The 8-man is on 6 p.m. Friday at Calhoun Academy.
