Beaufort Academy hires new athletic director

Beaufort Academy has hired its new athletic director.

On Wednesday, Nick Field was named BA’s athletic director and head of facilities maintenance. He replaces Neal McCarty.

“Coach Field’s experience as a coach, teacher, along with his strong organizational and relational skills make him an ideal choice,” McCarty said. “I look forward to working with him through the transition and know he is very excited for the opportunity. I am excited for him and his new role and for Beaufort Academy’s future.”



Field is a Marine veteran who has dedicated his life to youth coaching. He coached successful teams at both Riverview Charter School and Beaufort High School and also coached for the Bluffton Bulls AAU Basketball program. He recently founded the Beaufort Hustle AAU Basketball program.

Field attended and worked several events and camps in the country over the years including Nike Basketball coaching clinics, The NEXT project and Elite Guard Training Live. He was the assistant camp director for Beaufort Academy’s summer basketball camp under Chip Dinkins from 2013-2016, an assistant camp director for Beaufort High School’s summer basketball camp 2016-2017 and returned to work at the Beaufort Academy basketball camp which was held just a few weeks ago.

Field also worked at the NEXT Project in Charlottesville, Va., serving as the Director of Leadership and communication for the past three years.

“Nick Field brings a strong background and love for athletics and its potential to help develop hardworking and team oriented young people,” BA Head of School Dan Durbin said. “Although we will miss the leadership of Neal McCarty, we are pleased to have found someone that shares his commitment to the young people of our school.”
