Former Hilton Head coach to take over Hilton Head Prep baseball program
Former Hilton Head Island baseball coach Chris Wells has been named the new coach at Hilton Head Prep, the school announced Thursday.
Wells replaces Rick Sofield, who coached one season for the Dolphins.
“We are excited to add to the list of outstanding baseball coaches who have worked at Hilton Head Prep,” HHP Athletic Director Rich Basirico said. “… Chris brings so much experience and passion to our baseball program, and we are lucky that he will be coaching our team.”
Wells has more than 17 years of experience in coaching high school baseball in South Carolina. He is the winningest coach in Hilton Head history and led the Seahawks to seven regional titles.
Wells has coached American Legion baseball, coached in the Palmetto Games and in the North-South All-Star game. He has been the area scout for Diamond Prospects and an associate scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“I firmly believe that high school athletics teaches young people important qualities that will carry them further than their athletic abilities alone and that players should have goals as students, players and young adults,” Wells said.
