Hilton Head Prep’s Monts qualifies for US Youth Sailing championships

Bluffton resident and Hilton Head Prep sophomore Matthew Monts qualified for the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships last month in Clearwater, Fla.

Monts and his partner Carlyn Blauvelt from Atlanta Yacht Club won the North American Catamaran Association Regatta on Jan. 2-4. The event acts as a qualifier for the U.S. Youth Championships in Carolina Yacht Club in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., on June 23-27.

The regatta also was part of two-regatta series to qualify the team the U.S. will send the Youth Worlds. That qualifying that will be in California in May so Monts and Blauvelt will be training for that as well.
