Six Lowcountry teams ranked in state wrestling poll
Six Lowcountry teams are in the latest SC Mat High School wrestling rankings released Tuesday.
In Class 4A, Beaufort is sixth and Hilton Head is seventh. Beaufort won the Beaufort County wrestling championships over the weekend.
In Class 3A, Battery Creek is No. 10 and May River moved up three spots to No. 17. In SCISA rankings, John Paul II is fifth and Thomas Heyward ninth.
In the individual rankings, Hilton Head’s Alex Braden is No. 1 in Class 4A 145 pounds, HH’s Billy Christie No. 1 at 170 pounds. In Class 3A, Battery Creek’s Ahman Smalls (195)and Khalil Chisolm (220) are No. 1.
John Paul II’s Nathan Riley is No. 1 at 120 pounds.
The South Carolina High School League wrestling playoffs begin Saturday. The SCISA dual championships are Saturday at Ben Lippen with the individual championships Feb. 10.
