High school sports, Sept. 8: Bluffton dispatches John Paul II in girls’ tennis
Rachael Riley, Chloe Thomas and Sophie Albert swept to singles victories without losing more than one game Wednesday as Bluffton cruised to a 5-1 girls' tennis victory over John Paul II.
Samantha Davey and Margaret Zendzian made it a clean run through singles for the Bobcats, though Zendzian was forced to a third-set tiebreaker before putting away JP2's Jayne Trumps 10-6.
The Golden Warriors scored their lone point in doubles, as Megan Reilly and Sarah Bacevich won in straight sets over Bluffton's Melina Lyn and Meredith Devine.
Beaufort Academy 5, Holly Hill 2: The Eagles prevailed in a rematch of the 2014 SCISA girls' championship clash, claiming their third victory of the season.
VOLLEYBALL
St. Andrew's 3, Beaufort Academy 1: The Eagles rallied back after dropping the first two sets to win the third, but couldn't sustain the momentum as they fell 25-18 in the fourth set.
