Harbour Town clubhouse given top honors by Golf Inc. magazine
For the second consecutive year, golf’s best new public clubhouse stands at Sea Pines Resort.
The vast clubhouse at Harbour Town Golf Links, now open 16 months to greet two editions of the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, was honored as “New Public Clubhouse of the Year” by Golf Inc. magazine.
The selection was unveiled this week in the magazine’s new July/August issue. Harbour Town was one of two finalists, along with Parnu Bay Golf Links in Estonia.
A year ago, Sea Pines’ Plantation Golf Club — which serves the resort’s Heron Point and soon-to-open new Ocean layouts — was chosen as 2015’s best new public clubhouse.
Harbour Town’s facility, with a price tag of $23 million, was designed by Grady L. Woods and measures more than 44,000 square feet to meet PGA Tour standards. Features include wide hallways graced with portraits of past RBC Heritage champions, with a grand staircase in the center that leads to a 4,000-square-foot locker room.
The names of tournament participants are left on lockers until the next edition, so guests can “share” their locker with a top pro.
Other amenities include wraparound terraces with covered porches, a living room-style lounge, expanded golf shop and the 2,000-square-foot Links restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.
“Our magnificent clubhouse has given us a world-class facility to match the coveted experience of playing Harbour Town Golf Links,” said Cary Corbitt, the resort’s vice president of sports and operations.
Golf Inc. began recognizing the game’s top clubhouse facilities more than two decades ago, honoring both new designs and remodeled facilities. Winners will be honored at this fall’s Golf Inc. Summit, set for Sept. 14-16 at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas.
