Golf notebook: RBC Heritage ticket prices going up Friday
The end of March also means the last of discount pricing on tickets to watch the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, with all ticket prices increasing by $20 starting Friday.
April 1 also marks the final day that fans can purchase tickets via telephone, and the last day that ticket orders will be mailed, as operations shift to Harbour Town Golf Links next week for final preparation ahead of the PGA Tour’s annual visit.
“If folks are interested,” tournament director Steve Wilmot said, “now’s the time to purchase.”
Meantime, former PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner and two international standouts became the latest to add their names to the roster.
Dufner also won the CareerBuilder Challenge in January, his first victory since the 2013 PGA at Oak Hill. Also joining the lineup are England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick, who made his RBC Heritage debut two years ago after he won the U.S. Amateur, and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.
They join a field that includes new world No. 1 Jason Day, Open Championship titleholder Zach Johnson and former Harbour Town champions Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell and Davis Love III. Heritage Week begins April 11, with the opening round teeing off three days later.
Prices before Friday’s increase stand at $65 for single-day tickets, $150 for a full-week grounds badge and $225 for a clubhouse badge. For more information, go online to RBCHeritage.com or call 843-671-2448.
CAROLINAS MID-AM QUALIFIER
Beaufort’s Rob Simmons carded a 1-over-par 73 Wednesday at Dolphin Head Country Club to share medalist honors at a qualifier for next month’s Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship.
Simmons tied for the low score with Charlotte’s Paul Clark, one shot ahead of Cat Island’s Benji Gecy. Beaufort’s Matt O’Quinn was next with a 75, with Beaufort’s Terry Lanning (77) and Bluffton’s Kenny Bieschke (78) also earning berths.
The Carolinas Mid-Amateur will be played April 15-17 at Dataw Island’s Cotton Dike course.
TWICE AS NICE FOR SCGA SENIOR DUO
Eddie Hargett (Blythewood) and Walter Todd (Laurens) went wire-to-wire to capture the South Carolina Senior Four-Ball title at Dataw Island, their second SCGA title in six months.
An opening 7-under-par 65 at the Cotton Dike gave the duo a three-shot lead heading to the final day, a margin they preserved with a closing 67. Back in October, the tandem made their SCGA senior debut by winning the Senior Better Ball Championship.
Callawassie Island Club members John Evans and Joe Roller and Belfair’s Dave Bell and Tom Knight were part of a three-way tie for the top spot in the Second Flight.
HYLTON WINS ON HJGT STOP
Savannah Hylton (Hilton Head Island) used an even-par 72 to turn a four-shot deficit into a runaway victory in the Girls 13s division of last weekend’s Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event outside Charlotte.
Hylton carded four birdies in her round, including two down the stretch that extended her lead to a seven-stroke margin.
SPECIAL ACE
Sun City’s Bill Marks scored his first hole-in-one in storybook fashion March 13, getting his on the signature 17th hole of Kiawah Island’s famed Ocean Course.
With the 17th tee up and the Atlantic Ocean looming off to the right, Marks and son Bill Jr. watched his 5-hybrid attempt from 147 yards touch down on the green and roll into the cup. Forecaddie Vince Harold also served as witness.
