How much does it cost Hilton Head to sponsor the RBC Heritage golf tournament?
The 56th RBC Heritage is coming to Hilton Head in April, and the town will increase its spending to $400,000 to sponsor this year’s golf tournament, about $100,000 more than last year.
The final Heritage Classic Foundation request asked for $500,000 for marketing, transportation, security and tournament operations for everyone on-site. It received $100,000 less than requested. Earlier versions of the request cited an “increased prize purse.” The purse was boosted to $20 million in 2023, up from $8 million in 2022. This year’s purse will again be $20 million.
“It’s incredible exposure for our community,” Council Member Patsy Brison said Tuesday before the council voted to approve the motion 7-0.
In exchange for the sponsorship, the town receives logo, advertisement and video placements on the tournament’s guides, boards, website and promotional materials.
The Heritage is in its 56th year and the tournament will be played April 15-21. Since 1987, according to the Heritage Classic Foundation, it has has raised and donated $50 million to local educational and charitable initiatives. Last year’s winner of this tournament, England’s Matt Fitzpatrick collected $3.6 million in prize money.
