Bluffton’s Bryson Nimmer to compete in 2022 RBC Heritage. What to know

Bluffton native Bryson Nimmer will compete at the 2022 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, the tournament announced Saturday.

Nimmer, 25, who was raised in Bluffton, received a sponsor exemption to enter the field.

He was a standout golfer at Hilton Head Christian Academy and Clemson University, where he earned collegiate awards that included ACC Freshman of the Year and first team All-American his senior year.

After graduating from college in 2019, Nimmer turned pro — less than a year before the COVID-19 pandemic turned the golfing world upside down, canceling a litany of tournaments.

Nimmer is familiar with Heritage Classic Foundation events. He made his Heritage debut last year on a sponsor exemption. Nimmer did not make the cut to the third round in 2021. He was six strokes over par, according to previous reporting from The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.

In 2014, he won the Sea Pines Junior Heritage after he holed out to force a playoff. In 2017, he was runner-up at the Players Amateur held at Berkeley Hall Club. During the 2020 Heritage, he caddied for his buddy, Spencer Ralston.

“In 2020, he dominated the LOCALiQ Series with two victories and a runner-up finish,” a Heritage news release read Saturday. “His wins earned him an exemption into the 2021 RBC Canadian Open and Puerto Rico Open, where he shot three-under and finished in the top forty.”

Among others, Nimmer will be competing this year against multiple previous Heritage winners, including current defending champion Stewart Cink, along with the world’s No. 3-ranked golfer, Collin Morikawa.

The Heritage kicks off Monday and runs until next Sunday, April 17 at Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines. (The course is closed to spectators Monday.)

Tournament play begins Thursday. The Heritage expects 120,000 spectators to be at the Hilton Head Island event between Tuesday and Sunday.
