Five of world’s top 10 players coming to Harbour Town Golf Links for RBC Heritage

Five of the top 10 players in the world are in the field for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing at Hilton Head Island’s Harbour Town Golf Links next week.

The top-ranked player in the field is No. 2 Collin Morikawa, who finished in fifth place at 4 under in the Masters, which concluded Sunday.

Also competing are No. 6 Patrick Cantlay, No. 5 Cameron Smith, No. 8 Justin Thomas and No. 9 Dustin Johnson, a native of Columbia.

Other notables are defending champion Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Ian Poulter, Charl Schwartzel, Jordan Spieth, Harold Varner III, Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Abraham Ancer, Daniel Berger, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood.

Among the players with South Carolina ties in the tournament are Bluffton native Bryson Nimmer, Wesley Bryan of Columbia, Ben Martin of Greenwood, Aiken native Kevin Kisner, Matthew NeSmith, who grew up in North Augusta, and Greenville’s Lucas Glover.

The first round of the PGA Tour event is Thursday but preliminary events begin Monday.

The PGA Tour announced the field for the RBC Heritage by Boeing late Friday afternoon. But Tournament Director Steve Wilmot said at 6 p.m. that a couple of changes to the field still are expected.
