RBC Heritage fans will have new food choices this year from popular Hilton Head group
Move over, hot dog man, there’s a new chef in town.
The SERG Restaurant Group of Hilton Head will provide food for the concessions for the first time at the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing to be played April 13-19 over the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines.
The local chain of popular restaurants plans to introduce menu items from a number of its restaurants, to include Poseidon’s Fish Tacos, One Hot Mama’s Boneless Wings, and Skull Creek Boathouse’s shrimp and grits, the tournament announced.
Local nonprofits and civic groups will continue to operate the concession stands at the PGA Tour event, and continue to share in profits that amount to tens of thousands of dollars each year.
Tournament director Steve Wilmot said it will bring a new level of professionalism to the concessions operation, and the logistics have been in planning for more than two years.
The traditional hot dogs, hamburgers and barbecue sandwiches will be available, but will be supplemented by menu items from nine SERG Group restaurants.
The SERG Group started in 1984 with Guiseppi’s Pizza and Pasta.
Today, the group is among Hilton Head’s largest employers, and its restaurants include Giuseppi’s Pizza & Pasta on Hilton Head and in Bluffton; One Hot Mama’s American Grill; The Black Marlin Bayside Grill & Hurricane Bar at Palmetto Bay Marina; The Lodge; Skull Creek Boathouse; and WiseGuys Restaurant and Wine Bar; Char Bar Co.; Marleys; Holy Tequila Tacos and Tiquila; and Frankie Bones.
“They are a local company who knows the importance of the tournament to this community,” Heritage Classic Foundation chairman Simon Fraser said in a news release. “We look forward to offering our fans a wide variety of unique culinary options at the 2020 RBC Heritage and beyond.’”
C.T. Pan family together
Defending champion C.T. Pan of Taiwan will have a special guest at the Heritage this year: his wife.
Michelle Lin was not here a year ago for what Pan said on Monday was a win “that turned out to be a life-changing moment.”
Lin was with her husband at the annual Media Day at Harbour Town on Monday.
She said they moved their personal tournament in Taiwan a week later so they both could be on Hilton Head for the Heritage.
Last year, she stayed home to run the tournament but insisted he come to Hilton Head.
Their tournament, like their foundation, is designed to help young Taiwanese golfers improve enough to win college scholarships.
Lin is a good golfer herself, and has even caddied for her husband on the PGA Tour.
“I fired him because he did not win the tournament,” she said.
But she will be glad to caddie for him in the Par 3 tournament at The Masters this year — one of the many perks Pan won with his first PGA Tour win here last April.
“I have been dreaming about that my whole life,” she said.
