A year after his runner-up finish at the U.S. Junior Amateur, Andrew Orischak is in a battle to get back to the match-play brackets.

The Hilton Head Island golfer carded a 3-over-par 75 during Monday's first day of stroke-play qualifying at The Honors Course outside Chattanooga, Tenn., leaving him in a tie for 64th with 18 holes left to improve his position.

Monday's play was suspended by darkness with 18 players yet to complete their rounds. The top 64 players after Tuesday's second round will advance to the match play brackets, with a playoff settling the final spots if necessary.

IJGA student Arjun Puri led the Lowcountry faction with a 74, giving him a share of 47th. Hilton Head Island's Travis Mancill carded an 84 in his first U.S. Junior Amateur round.
