High school roundup for May 19: Seahawks boys’ golf 3rd at state meet

The Hilton Head High boys’ golf team took third place at the Class 3-A state tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway. The Seahawks’ two-round total of 615 (39 over par) trailed AC Flora’s 599 and Eastside’s 610. AC Flora won its seventh straight championship.

Brooks Dyess earned All-State honors for the Seahawks by carding a 150 (74-76), good for a tie for ninth place in the individual standings.

Other Hilton Head golfers included Travis Mancill (155), Charlie Farrell (155), Caden Edwards (157) and Drew Hall (158).

The individual champion was Chapman’s Jacob Bridgeman, who carded a 137 — with a second-round 66 — to win by six strokes.

Beaufort took 12th in the team standings with a 647, paced by Matthew Campbell’s 154. Campbell placed 16th among individuals.

Other Eagle golfers were Tommy Holloway (160), Max Kase (168), Daniel Mock (169) and Whit Fanning (172).
