U.S. Senior Open qualifier in Charleston; women must go out of state
Daniel Island Club near Charleston has been named as one of 34 qualifying sites for this year’s U.S. Senior Open, taking place June 27 with top finishers earning a tee time in August’s main draw at Scioto Country Club.
Other nearby qualifying sites are at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville, N.C., and White Columns CC in Milton, Ga. Applicants must turn 50 before Aug. 11 and carry a handicap index of 3.4 or lower.
The U.S. Women’s Open, meanwhile, will not have a qualifier in South Carolina this year. The nearest qualifying sites are May 23 at Dunwoody (Ga.) Country Club or May 25 at Carolina Trace CC in Sanford, N.C.
Registration for all three national opens, including the U.S. Open at Oakmont, is open at the USGA.org website. Other USGA championships will begin taking entries starting next month.
NEW HERITAGE TICKET LOCATIONS
Fans can purchase RBC Heritage tickets at the grocery store this month, with Kroger locations in Hilton Head Island and Bluffton now serving as outlets along with Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce offices.
All three locales will offer Clubhouse and Grounds badges, along with Doc’s BBQ Club passes and daily and practice-day tickets. The Kroger stores will sell through March 31, with the Chamber of Commerce office continuing to sell through tournament week.
