Former Hilton Head Christian standout J.D. Lehman will make a collegiate homecoming of sorts next February, joined by his University of Louisville teammates as the Wexford Intercollegiate kicks off several teams' spring season.
The ACC school, defending champion Wofford and three-time champions USC-Aiken head the list of 17 teams accepting invitations to the tournament's 11th edition, set for Feb. 21-23 at Wexford Plantation. Francis Marion again serves as the host school.
Austin Peay, Dayton, Campbell, Cleveland State, Presbyterian, Radford and Western Carolina will return from last year's lineup. Rounding out the roster are Akron, Belmont, DePaul, Gardner-Webb, Oakland (Mich.) and UNC-Wilmington.
Lehman ranks No.2 in scoring average on the Louisville roster, with a 73.33 average in four events. He tied for ninth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, giving him three top-10s in the past season and a half.
The Wexford Intercollegiate also could mark a return for Dayton golfer and Hilton Head Island resident Kevin Wargo, a standout at Roswell, Ga.'s Blessed Trinity who has seen action in just one of the Flyers' four fall tournaments.
Tobias Pettersen of Francis Marion and the Wofford duo of Andrew Novak and Jeremy Grab will be the top returning golfers from last year's rain-shortened edition. They finished two shots behind individual winner J.T. Poston of Western Carolina.
