Hilton Head's Wipper selected for North-South matches
Meredith Wipper, who helped Hilton Head Island to a fourth-place finish at last week's Class 3-A girls golf championship, is one of 16 seniors selected for the North-South All-Star Girls Golf matches, set for Nov. 13-14 at Chapin's Timberlake Country Club.
Wipper placed sixth individually at the state event, posting rounds of 80-75 at Port Royal Golf Club's Barony course. She'll be joined on the South team by two members of 3-A champion St. James -- Kelli Smith and Steely Hays -- as well as Wando's Kate Harper, who captured the High School Invitational last month at Cat Island.
Victoria Huskey, who won her second consecutive 3-A individual title with a second-round 68, heads the North squad.
The North-South matches are a team event in similar fashion to the Ryder Cup or Solheim Cup, featuring one round of best-ball match play, one of alternate-shot and finishing with eight singles matches. The North captured last year's event 10-6.
