Former Hilton Head Island High teacher Todd White saw his run in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship come to an end in Wednesday's quarterfinals, losing a 4 & 3 decision to David Bolen of Lubbock, Texas.

Two birdies in Bolen's first four holes helped him jump out to a quick 3-up lead at John's Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla., and White never got closer than 2-down the rest of the way. White didn't make a birdie until the 12th hole, and wound up playing his 15 holes in 2-over par.

White, now teaching in Spartanburg, hadn't trailed since midway through his first-round match until Bolen birdied Wednesday's opening hole.

A member of the 2013 U.S. Walker Cup team, White's victory at last spring's Azalea Invitational made him the first winner in 15 years from outside the junior or college ranks. The U.S. Mid-Amateur is open to amateurs age 25 or older.
