Professional Tim Sutherland and his three amateur teammates were the winners of the Hilton Head Cup Pro-Am held last weekend at Sea Pines Resort.

Sutherland and teammates Daniel Cort, Scott Hammett and Rick Cooler had scores of 142 and 139 to finish with a 281 total over two days at Heron Point and Harbour Town Golf Links. They finished three shots ahead of pro Blaine Bunch and his teammates Geoff Bickerton, Jim Martin and Mike Hostilo. Ed Brill and teammates Joe Jaspers, Mark Goodwin and Dennis McCormac finished third, seven shots behind the winners.

Sutherland's team also was the net division winner, finishing a whopping 16 strokes ahead of Andrew Bryce and his teammates, Samuel Walker, Nick Snyder and Greg Davis.

BUCHANAN 3RD AT KIAWAH

Former Bluffton golfer Sammie Buchanan, a member of the Bobcats' state championship teams of 2009 and 2011, finished third this past weekend at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.

Buchanan, a sophomore at UNC Greensboro shot a three-day total of 70-72-79--221 and finished a stroke behind Kent State's Wad Phaewchimplee and Boston College's Katia Joo.

After an even-par 72 on Monday, Buchanan led by a stroke headed into the final day of play. But she couldn't overcome a third-round 79.

Buchanan was a four-time girls golf team's MVP at Bluffton, a four-time All-State golfer and a three-time Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette's player of the year.

She wrapped up her high school career -- which included six seasons of varsity golf -- by tying for eighth at the 2011 Class 3-A state championships to help the Bobcats claim the state title for the second time in three seasons.

SMITH WINS HPGT EVENT

Thanks to a first-round 68, Jesse Smith's final-round 75 was more than enough to hold on to the top spot Tuesday and win the Hurricane Pro Golf Tour's three-round event at The Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes.

Smith was the only golfer to finish under par with a three-round total of 2-under 214. He beat Amory Davis by four strokes. Joel Hendry was third at 220.
