Betting odds, favorites to win
For the third consecutive year, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to slip on the green jacket. The 2022 and 2024 Masters champion is a 4-1 favorite to win at Augusta National for the third time, according to the latest DraftKings odds.
He has some close company — well, company of one.
Rory McIlroy — looking to complete the career grand slam — has 6.5-1 odds to win on Sunday after finishing T-22 last year. After Scheffler and McIlroy, though, there really are no more favorites. Behind that pair are 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm (13-1), Collin Morikawa (17-1), Xander Schauffele (18-1), Bryson DeChambeau (19-1) and Ludvig Aberg (20-1).
Who won the 2024 Masters?
Scheffler became the 18th multiple-time Masters champion last year after shooting 4-under on Sunday to win by four strokes. It was another dominant Augusta performance from Scheffler, who would have beat the field in 2022 by even more if he didn’t 4-putt the final hole.
If Scheffler can slip on the green jacket again this year, he would join Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as the only back-to-back Masters champions.
Is Tiger Woods playing?
Woods will not be playing in the Masters for the first time since 2021. A five-time champion at the event, Woods ruptured his left Achilles while trying to prepare for a return to form and had surgery to repair it.
Woods did bring about some temporary hope when he posted on X a week and a half ago that working with trainers combined with sleeping in a hyperbaricchamber had him ready to tee it up at Augusta National. He then had to clarify that the good news was only an April Fool’s joke.
He’s not at Augusta National at all this week because of the injury, even skipping the annual champions dinner.
This year’s honorary starters
The 2025 Masters will be kicked off Thursday morning when the honorary starter trio of Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson hit the ceremonial tee shot.
The three have combined for 11 Masters victories. Nicklaus has a record six, Player won three times and Watson has two green jackets to his name.
The trio will swing from the first tee at 7:25 a.m. Thursday morning, an earlier time than normal due to the fact that this year’s Masters field (95 players) is larger than usual.
