Rain ends Monday at the Masters early. What’s the forecast for this week?
The start of Masters week is off to an ominous start.
At 11:25 am on Monday morning — just under three-and-a-half hours after the patron gates opened — play was suspended after the skies of Augusta opened up and a steady rainfall began to fall. All patrons were cleared off the course grounds at Augusta National Golf Club.
A few hours later, just before 3 p.m., The Masters posted on social media that Augusta National will not open for Monday. With that decision, the club announced that those who purchased Monday practice round tickets will be sent a refund and guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2026 Monday practice round tickets.
“We are disappointed our patrons could not fully enjoy today’s practice round, but the safety of everyone at Augusta National is our highest priority and was the determining factor in the decision to cancel,” Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, said in a statement.
Cooler weather is in the forecast after Monday, with morning temperatures in the mid- to low 40s most days. There isn’t rain the forecast again until Thursday and Friday.
Vijay Singh won’t play in this year’s tournament
Twenty-five years after his Masters victory, Vijay Singh will not tee it up this week.
Singh informed the competition committee on Monday morning that an injury will keep him out of this year’s Masters tournament.
The news comes on the silver anniversary of his 2000 Masters win, when he finished 10-under and held off Ernie Els and David Duval to slip on the green jacket.
There are 18 other past champions playing in this year’s 95-player field.
The first round of the Masters begins Thursday.
