Koepka commits to Heritage. SC event to feature world’s Top 5 golfers
Brooks Koepka has never played in the RBC Heritage in his career. That will change next week as one of the top American golfers will play at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Koepka was announced Wednesday as part of the field for the event that was moved back on the PGA Tour’s schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic. Also playing in Hilton Head for a chance at the plaid jacket will be Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Team RBC ambassador Dustin Johnson.
The full field will be confirmed Friday by the PGA.
The Heritage will be next week — June 18-21. It was originally set for mid-April and is traditionally the week after The Masters. Koepka came in second in Augusta last year.
Koepka’s last completed PGA Tour event was the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, where he finished 64th. He’d shot a even-par 72 in the first round of The Players Championship before the pandemic shut that down.
He finished atop the FedEx Cup regular season standings in 2019.
McIlroy is the world’s No. 1 golfer and had previously committed to play in the event. He has not been to Hilton Head since 2009 when he was 19 years old.
The PGA Tour resumes its season this week with the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
C.T. Pan edged Matt Kuchar to win the 2019 Heritage.
