Nominations open for next year’s Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame class
Nominations are being taken for the third enshrinement class of the Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame, which will add two more names to its roster during ceremonies next spring.
The process has been streamlined this year, eliminating two letters of recommendation. Submissions require only a short biography of the nominee and a detailed chronological history of their golf-related accomplishments.
“We found that we didn’t need the two letters,” said Bob Collar, the hall’s executive director. “Just give us the resume, and we’ll be able to make a determination.”
A six-person panel, including five current Hall of Famers, will review all candidates and submit finalists to the full selection committee for a December vote.
Anyone can offer up a nomination, with a submission deadline of Nov. 30. Candidates from previous years remain eligible for five years and do not need to be resubmitted. For more information, contact Collar at 843-816-0898 or email clubcollar@aol.com.
Nearly two dozen nominees from last year remain on the list, Collar said, and the committee already has received at least four more.
Cary Corbitt and Karen Ferree were added to the hall during ceremonies last April, joining the inaugural enshrinement class of Charles Fraser, Joe Fraser, Charlie Price, Jim Ferree, Tim Moss, Mike Harmon and Kevin King.
The Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame, featuring artifacts and testimonials on its nine members, is in the process of moving into new space at the Shops at Sea Pines Center. Plans for a grand opening remain forthcoming.
Collar also noted the hall’s annual fundraising tournament, postponed by Hurricane Matthew, will go back on the calendar for January or February.
