USCB hurdler breaks school record again, places 4th in NAIA final
USC Beaufort’s Brandon Gourdine broke the school record in the men’s 110 hurdles for the second time in as many days, placing fourth in Saturday’s final at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Gulf Shores, Ala.
Gourdine crossed the line in 14.35 seconds, bettering the time of 14.47 that he ran in Friday’s preliminaries. It marked the third time this season that the senior had lowered the USCB record in the event.
Taylor Killings of Marian (Ind.) won the event in 14.07 seconds, outleaning Indiana Tech’s DeShawn Woods by one-hundredth of a second.
None of USCB’s other three finalists managed to place in the top eight in their events Saturday. Junior Betsy Douglas placed 10th in the women’s 1,500 final, her time of 4:48.07 a full 14 seconds slower than her qualifying time on Thursday.
In the men’s 3,000 steeplechase, senior Anthony Vecchio placed ninth in 9:35.63 and junior Nic O’Neill was another 35 seconds behind in 15th.
