Women’s golf: USC Beaufort tied for 4th after 1st round
USC Beaufort’s women’s golf team sits in a tie for fourth place after one round of play at the NAIA Championships at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. The round started Tuesday and, after a rain postponement, was completed Wednesday.
The second round has been pushed to Thursday, and the tournament has been shortened from four rounds to three.
The Sand Sharks carded a 21-over-par 309. Fellow Sun Conference school Keiser (Fla.) is tied for the lead at 306 with Cumberlands University. Coastal Georgia is in third place at 308. Indiana Tech is tied with USC Beaufort.
Emily Turner paced the Sand Sharks with a 2-over 74, which put her in a tie for eighth place in the individual race.
Franzi Knoetsch notched a 75, which put her in a tie for 12th. Vanessa Schloo and Moa Kristenson both carded 80s and Paulina Sekerkova recorded an 87.
Keiser’s Elsa Westin led the individual standings with a 1-under 71. She was the only player under par. Three players were one shot back.
The second round will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday.
