Both Sand Shark golf teams headed to nationals
The USC Beaufort golf teams will once again shoot for a national title, as the Sand Shark men were awarded an at-large berth in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships on Thursday following the Sand Shark women’s berth earlier this month.
The USCB men were unsure of their postseason fate after finishing sixth at the Sun Conference Championship with a short-handed lineup. The Sand Sharks’ regular-season resume was enough to buoy them, however, as 18th-ranked USCB earned the ninth of 10 at-large berths in the national tournament May 24-27 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
The Sand Shark women will be much closer to home, as the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship is set for Tuesday through May 20 at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. Sixth-ranked USCB will be paired with SCAD Atlanta and Morningside (Iowa) for the first two rounds and will tee off at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday and 8:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Both USCB teams finished in the top 10 last season, with the men placing fourth in Daytona Beach, Fla., and the women tying for ninth.
