USCB baseball falls short of Sun Conference tournament final
Dylan Yankle and Thomas Estopare stroked three hits apiece, but USC-Beaufort left 13 runners on base as the Sand Sharks lost 15-3 to Keiser late Sunday to come up one game short of the Sun Conference baseball tournament final in Fort Myers, Fla.
The top-seeded Sand Sharks scored twice in the first inning for an early lead, but Keiser took control with eight runs in the second as USCB was forced to call upon its bullpen. The Seahawks added single runs in the third and fourth before breaking it wide open with a three-run fifth.
Colin Tindall provided a bright spot in relief by allowing just one Keiser hit over three innings, though the damage already had been done.
Keiser, the only team left unbeaten in the brackets, squared off Monday against St. Thomas for the tournament crown.
The Sand Sharks (43-12), who won the league’s regular-season title and defeated Southeastern 7-4 earlier Sunday, now await word on who will join them in Savannah for the NAIA regional that begins May 17.
