2 USCB athletes earn week’s top honors from Sun Conference
USCB outfielder Kal Davis, who drove home 10 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Brewton-Parker last week, and track athlete Betsy Douglas received weekly honors in their respective sports by the Sun Conference.
Davis played a major role in the Sand Sharks’ record-setting outburst against Brewton-Parker, when they scored 21 runs in both games of the doubleheader. The junior accounted for more than one-fourth of USCB’s scoring that day, crossing the plate three times and driving in 10 runs.
With six RBIs in the second game, including a grand slam, Davis came within one of the school’s single-game record. He has 45 RBIs on the year, needing just 12 more to match the school record for a season.
Douglas placed third in the 1,500 meters at last weekend’s UNF Spring Invitational, crossing the line behind only a pair of NCAA Division I runners. Her time of 4 minutes, 35.74 seconds met the “A” qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championships, where she finished sixth last year.
