Scoring records fall in final round of Lowcountry Intercollegiate
Brown's Sasha Banks birdied four of her final five holes Sunday in a closing flurry that not only swept her to a two-shot victory at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate, but matched the tournament scoring record in the process.
Banks entered the closing stretch at Moss Creek's South course among perhaps a half-dozen golfers with a chance to win the individual title, pushing to the front when she reeled off three consecutive birdies at Nos. 14-16. After a par at the par-3 17th, a final birdie at No.18 left her with a 1-under-par 71.
With a two-day total of 2-over 146, Banks matched the scoring record set by Princeton's Jordan Lippetz and SCAD Savannah's Sofia Moinaro in sharing last year's crown.
Bethune-Cookman also went into the event's record book while capturing the team title, overtaking Chattanooga to finish with a 611 total that broke the old mark by five shots. The Wildcats began the day two shots off the pace, but got a 74 from Yudika Rodriguez and a 74 from Alejandra Sanchez on the way to a second-day 307.
Chattanooga carded 312 on Sunday, leaving them with a 614 total that also broke the old record but finished three shots behind the Wildcats.
USCB placed eighth in the team standings, with Franzi Knoetsch shooting a Sunday 75 but no other player able to break 80. Even so, the Sand Sharks' total of 631 left them in the top half of the 18-team field comprised mostly of NCAA Division I squads.
