USCB’s Franzi Knoetsch is conference’s top golfer for 2nd straight week
USCB sophomore Franzi Knoetsch made it back-to-back selections as the Sun Conference’s Golfer of the Week, a reward for her first victory of the season at last week’s Callaway Gardens Women’s Collegiate in Georgia.
Knoetsch posted rounds of 73-74 to win the Callaway Gardens crown. That followed a third-place finish at the Armstrong Pirate Women’s Invitational the previous week.
The native of Germany now has three victories in her college career.
USCB men place 4th at Cape Fear: Brad Curren fired a closing 2-under-par 70 to place third individually at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate in Leland, N.C., as the Sand Sharks took fourth in a field of mostly NCAA Division I teams.
USCB was the only NAIA squad in the 13-team field and one of just two non-Division I programs to compete. Nonetheless, Monday’s final round gave them a team total of 897 — just one shot behind third-place Western Kentucky. Duke’s 857 ran off with the team title, 14 shots ahead of UNC-Wilmington.
Curren’s three-day total of 3-under 213 left him five shots behind individual winner Patrick Cover of UNC-Wilmington.
