USC Beaufort’s Curren, Milam finish top 10 at Savannah Quarters

HiltonHead

Brad Curren tied for third and Jud Milam finished eighth to lead the USC Beaufort men’s golf team in their season-opening event at the Savannah Quarters Individual Intercollegiate on Monday in Pooler, Ga.

USCB was the only non-NCAA Division I team in the field for the event, which was scheduled to conclude Tuesday but was shortened to 36 holes because of unplayable conditions in the forecast.

Curren was the 18-hole leader after firing a 4-under-par 68 Monday morning at Savannah Quarters Country Club, giving him a one-shot lead over East Carolina’s Jacob Hicks. The winds kicked up in the afternoon, though, and Curren carded a 3-over 75 to finish two shots back of North Florida’s Dillon Woods and one behind Hicks. Woods opened with a 73 before firing a 68 in the second round.

Milam had the only other round under par in the second round, following up his opening 76 with a 71 to climb 11 spots and notch his second straight top-10 finish in the event. Milam was the runner-up last season.

USCB’s Seth Rockwell (78-80) tied for 33rd, followed by Kirk Mitchell (77-83) in a tie for 40th, Bobby Dunphy (82-82) in a tie for 45th and Riley Schank (83-86) in 48th.

USCB won’t compete again until hosting the Sand Shark Classic on March 7-8 at Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie.
