First pitch for USC Beaufort baseball comes Saturday
Voluntary reporting day for pitchers and catchers for Major League Baseball is 21 days away.
But USC Beaufort gets its regular season started Saturday with a noon doubleheader at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Fla.
Head coach Bryan Lewallyn’s Sand Sharks will be looking to improve on their 2015 season, which saw them finish 33-21, 15-12 in the Sun Conference, but miss the NAIA tournament.
The Sand Sharks played a doubleheader against the Eagles last season, dropping the opener 6-5 and winning the second game 9-5.
Among USCB’s top returning players are junior infielder Josh Reinhart (.343, 37 RBIs), senior outfielder John Cloyd (.305, 1 HR, 23 RBIs, 11 SBs) and senior pitcher Jamie Strock (3.77 ERA, 6-5 in 14 starts).
