USCB women 4th on Jekyll Island

The USC Beaufort women's golf team started its season Monday by posting a team score of 316 on the Pine Lakes course at Jekyll Island (Ga.) Golf Club, putting the Sand Sharks in a tie for fourth after one round at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational.

The ninth-ranked Sand Sharks are only 11 shots off the pace set by No. 5 Dalton State (305), which holds a six-shot lead over Faulkner (311). Top-ranked Keiser (312) is third, followed by USCB and host Coastal Georgia (316).

Sophomore Franzi Knoetsch led USCB on day one with a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for fourth, three shots behind Keiser's Caroline Retabi. Sophomore Emily Turner and freshman Vanessa Schloo are tied for 18th after carding rounds of 80, while senior Lina Sekerkova (81) is tied for 24th and sophomore Moa Kristenson (86) is tied for 46th.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
