USCB men's golf 4th at St. Simons

The USC Beaufort men's golf team posted rounds of 299 and 300 on the Retreat Course at Sea Island Golf Club on Monday, leaving the Sand Sharks in fourth place after the first day of the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational on St. Simons Island, Ga.

The fifth-ranked Sand Sharks are 18 shots behind fourth-ranked Johnson and Wales, which leads the 19-team field that includes six teams ranked in the NAIA Men's Golf Coaches Preseason Top 25. Johnson and Wales (581) holds a seven-shot edge over No. 12 Keiser (588), while top-ranked Coastal Georgia (597) is third, followed by USCB (599) and No. 17 Thomas (604).

Sophomore Seth Rockwell (75-71-146) led USCB on day one and is tied for fifth at 2-over par, six shots behind Jake Bauer of Johnson and Wales. Senior Kirk Mitchell (73-77-150) is tied for 21st, followed by senior Jud Milam (77-74-151) in a tie for 24th, senior Brad Curren (75-78-153) in a tie for 30th, and senior Cory Cottrell (76-79-155) in a tie for 39th.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
