Hayley Pina becomes USCB’s 1st named to all-league soccer 1st team
USC Beaufort striker Hayley Pina was rewarded for her record-breaking soccer season with recognition on the All-Sun Conference first team, becoming the first player in the program's six-year history to receive a first-team spot.
Pina broke her own USCB record with 11 goals this past season, ranking fourth in the league, and her 26 points also rewrote the school mark. The California native also became the Sand Sharks' career leader in both categories, with one season of eligibility left.
Until this season, only one USCB player had even earned second-team Sun Conference honors, given to goalkeeper Chelsea Mummert in 2014. Mummert and four others had earned honorable mention.
Freshman center back Elin Sturesson added her name to the honorable mention list this year, recognized for her work to anchor a USCB back line that set a school record with just 34 goals allowed this season.
Five Sand Sharks were named to the league's all-academic team: seniors Brittany Lorentz, Bridgette Noonan and Taylor Superior, plus sophomores Brittney Neser and Claudia Doll.
