Winner in extra time allows USCB to lock up 1st winning soccer season
Taylor Superior tied the score in the 89th minute and Hayley Pina blasted home the winner in extra time, lifting USC Beaufort to a 2-1 victory Friday night at Webber International that guaranteed the first winning season in the program’s six-year history.
After a scoreless first extra period, the Sand Sharks peppered the Webber net with seven shots in the second. Pina’s winner came with less than three minutes remaining, finding the upper right corner with a powerful strike from 20 yards out.
The victory allowed USCB to finish the regular season with a 9-7-2 record, awaiting next month’s Sun Conference tournament. The Sand Sharks have locked up a tournament berth at 5-3-2, though SCAD Savannah could pass them in the standings before the bracket is set.
Francesca Mascall’s goal gave Webber International a 1-0 lead in the 84th minute, but Superior countered just five minutes later by cashing in Cameron Croney-Clark’s corner kick.
