Sun Conference selects Sand Sharks for golf, cross country honors

USC Beaufort golfer Franzi Knoetsch was named the Sun Conference's top female golfer for September, while runner Betsy Douglas claimed the league's weekly cross country honors for the third time.

Knoetsch won the Sand Sharks' first two events of the season, leading the Sand Sharks to a third-place finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational and a 32-shot romp over a field of NCAA Division II squads at the Converse Fall Invitational.

The junior from Germany leads USCB with a 72.33 scoring average, shooting par or better in two of her three rounds.

Douglas easily led all non-Division I runners at the USC Upstate Invitational last Saturday, placing fourth overall in 18 minutes, 8 seconds. She was outpaced only by entrants from Kennesaw State and Lipscomb.

Douglas' time was the third-fastest in USCB history, giving the senior seven of the program's top 10 5K times.
