USCB soccer beats Florida Memorial for 3rd consecutive victory
Daniella Borjas scored her first goal of the season and Hayley Pina added a pair of second-half tallies Sunday as USC Beaufort ran its winning streak to three games with a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over Florida Memorial.
After the Sand Sharks were stymied for most of the first half, Borjas finally broke the deadlock with less than 30 seconds left before halftime when she ran onto a through ball from Cameron Croney-Clark to beat FMU goalkeeper Maria Kecskemeti.
“Our pressure paid off,” USCB coach Ed Heberling said. “Cam won a ball and played it nicely to Dani for the simply and composed finish. That goal is what we needed to gain some confidence headed to half.”
Pina added to her USCB career mark with a pair of strong strikes as the Sand Sharks began to create more scoring chances, finishing off assists from Sam Satterlee and Poppy Miller.
Miller also led a strong USCB defensive effort that allowed just four shots on goal, all of which were saved by Moa Johansson.
The Sand Sharks (7-5, 3-1 Sun Conference) return to action Friday at home against Warner, before heading out on a run of three consecutive road matches.
