USCB runners Betsy Douglas, Nic O’Neill earn Sun Conference honors
USC Beaufort’s Betsy Douglas, who ran away from the field at last weekend’s Palmetto Cross Country Festival, and teammate Nic O’Neill gave the Sand Sharks a sweep of the Sun Conference’s first Runner of the Week honors this season.
Douglas began her season with a dominant performance in the Palmetto women’s 5K in Columbia, posting a time of 19 minutes, 2 seconds that was nearly 2 1/2 minutes ahead of her nearest pursuer.
O’Neill was the top USCB finisher in the men’s race, with a ninth-place finish (17:48) that was just under a minute behind winner Logan Hawke of host school Columbia International.
The Sand Sharks will return to racing Sept. 17 at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill.
