Women’s athletics pioneer Joan Cronan to speak on Hilton Head Island

The Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island will host a luncheon, featuring guest speaker Joan Cronan, former women’s athletic director at the University of Tennessee, at noon Sept. 13 at the Sonesta Resort, 130 Shipyard Drive on Hilton Head Island.

In her 35-year career in women’s athletics, Cronan has 10 NCAA titles, 41 top-five finishes, 22 SEC season titles and 33 SEC tournament championships. She was president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the National Association of College Women’s Athletics Administrators. She was also athletics director at the College of Charleston. Currently she serves on the board of the Pat Summitt Foundation and raises funds for Alzheimer’s research.

Her recent book, “Sports is Life with the Volume Turned Up,” will be for sale at the luncheon.

Interest group sign-up will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Social hour begins at 11 a.m.

Cost is $30 for members; $38 for nonmembers.
