Former Beaufort High hurdler to compete at NCAA Indoors
North Carolina A&T hurdler Michael Dickson, a former Beaufort High standout, earned a berth in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships that will begin Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
Dickson will run the 60-meter hurdles, where his top time of 7.74 seconds ranks 15th in the NCAA this season. The top 16 times qualify for the national championships.
Dickson, twice a state champion in the 110 hurdles at Beaufort, has rewritten the North Carolina A&T record books multiple times this season.
In his first start, Dickson became the first Aggie in history to break 8 seconds with a time of 7.87. A few weeks later, he set his qualifying mark at the Armory Track Invitational in New York.
Last week, he tied the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships record by winning his event in 7.85 seconds.
Hurdles competition commences Friday with two heats; the top two in each heat and four next-fastest times will qualify for the final.
