Georgia transfer Ja'Marley Riddle arrested on drug charges, speeding

Georgia safety Ja'Marley Riddle was arrested last Friday on two felony drug possession charges after being pulled over for speeding.

Riddle, a transfer from East Carolina, was arrested by Glynn County (Ga.) Police and charged with possession of marijuana of more than one ounce, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and the speeding charge.

Riddle, 19, posted bond for all three charges and was released the same day, per the Glynn County Detention Center.

"We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information," a Georgia spokesman told multiple media outlets. "As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time."

Per the police report, a detective in an undercover car saw a red Dodge Durango "weaving in and out of traffic" at a high rate of speed. Officers eventually stopped Riddle and observed that he was "extremely nervous, shaking" and that there was the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Riddle said he did not have marijuana in his vehicle and consented to a search of the SUV.

Per the police report, an officer pulled "a large heat-sealed bag" from a backpack in the back seat, and found "a large amount of multicolored packaging, some with a leafy substance stating marijuana, and some containing vapes stating THC."

Riddle earned first-team All-AAC honors last season after recording 70 tackles and three interceptions with the Pirates.
