Where South Carolina and Clemson fall in way-too-early bowl predictions for 2023 season
College football in South Carolina begins next week, but way-too-early postseason bowl predictions have already started trickling out.
The Clemson Tigers are projected to make a New Year’s Six Bowl, while forecasts have the Gamecocks back in Florida for the second consecutive year.
Pro Football Focus analyst Max Chadwick projects Clemson to play Alabama in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, with the Crimson Tide winning. Last year the Tigers lost to Tennessee 31-14 in the same bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Brett McMurphy from Action Network has Clemson playing Penn State in the same game to end this season, with each team at about even odds of winning.
On3’s J.D. PicKell also predicts the Tigers to win the ACC over Florida State.
Action Network’s McMurphy has South Carolina playing BYU in the Gasparilla Bowl (Dec. 22) in Tampa, with BYU as a one-point favorite. Last year the Gamecocks played Notre Dame in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ NFL stadium. USC lost 45-38 to the Fighting Irish.
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm predicts Clemson to face Texas in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30 in Atlanta. Palm projects South Carolina against TCU in the Texas Bowl. That game is played Dec. 27 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Clemson was ranked No. 9 in The Associated Press’ preseason Top-25 poll released last Monday. South Carolina went unranked, but came in second behind Texas Tech in teams receiving votes.
