Mark Kingston has added transfer from South Carolina’s in-state rival to the Gamecocks roster.

Clemson catcher Jonathan French announced his commitment to South Carolina Wednesday via Twitter.

The redshirt sophomore started 37 out of the 44 games he played this past season. French hit .217, had a slugging percentage of .428 and had an on base percentage of .333.

The Georgia native has gone 4-for-20 at the plate against South Carolina in his two-year career, including a game-tying home run in the eighth inning of Game one of the series this season.

French teased a visit to Columbia on Twitter on June 8. He will join fellow former Tiger Dylan Brewer who committed to play for the Gamecocks on June 6. The Tigers fired seven-year head coach Monte Lee after missing the NCAA tournament for the second straight season and are reportedly set to hire Michigan’s Erik Bakich to replace him.

With Colin Burgess entering the transfer portal last week, French will be likely be vying for the starting catcher role this coming season.
