Two players are not currently with the South Carolina program.

Head coach Shane Beamer said following Saturday’s spring game that receiver Rico Powers and defensive tackle Jamaal Whyce are not with the team at the moment. Beamer said a determination of whether they’ll be with the team in the fall will be made closer to the season.

“We’ll address that as we get into the season,” Beamer said.

No reason was given for Powers’ or Whyce’s absences. Both are still listed on the team’s official roster, though neither was on Saturday’s spring game roster.

Powers has seen action in 11 games in his two years at South Carolina. He arrived in Columbia as a four-star prospect and the No. 304 player in the 2020 class, per 247Sports.

Powers posted videos to Twitter of route running inside USC’s practice facility Feb. 3 — before spring practice began. He later posted “I’ll Be Here ...” to social media March 17, two days after the start of spring.

Whyce came to South Carolina as a member of the 2022 recruiting class out of Georgia. He was rated a three-star recruit and the No. 829 player in the class.

Receiver Jalen Brooks is the only player who has previously been publicly dropped from the program this spring after a prolonged absence last fall. Brooks did not appear in a game after South Carolina’s Oct. 9 loss at Tennessee.

No reason was given for his departure.
