DeVonte Holloman officially back with Gamecocks working under Shane Beamer
Another familiar face is back with the South Carolina football team.
The school made the news official Monday — one day before the start of spring practice — that DeVonte Holloman had joined Shane Beamer’s staff as a defensive analyst.
Holloman, 31, was a four-year letterwinner at South Carolina from 2009-12, a linebacker under Steve Spurrier and part of the program’s only SEC Eastern Division title. He was most recently the head coach at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill.
He’ll be part of a USC analyst team that includes Nick Coleman, Patrick DiMarco, Ahmad Smith, Lonnie Teasley, Stanton Weber and Shaq Wilson. The four graduate assistants are Donnie Both, Christian Ellsworth, Trey Money and Zeb Noland.
When Holloman announced in early February that he was stepping down at South Pointe, there was immediate speculation that South Carolina would be his next move.
Beamer in mid-February addressed that speculation in a “JB and Goldwater” radio interviw.
“DeVonte is somebody that I have a lot of respect for,” Beamer said. “I won’t lie, I’ve had some conversations with DeVonte, but have not offered DeVonte anything at this point.”
Holloman was selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, but a neck injury forced him to retire prematurely.
He has since worked as a graduate assistant at USC before landing an assistant coaching job at Beaufort High School. He was eventually named the head coach at Beaufort in 2018 and then was the head coach at South Pointe for three seasons.
During his recent run as the head coach at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, Holloman coached South Carolina receiver O’Mega Blake — who signed with USC in December 2020.
