Want your favorite Gamecock’s replica football jersey? Here’s how you can get it
South Carolina fans looking for their favorite player’s jerseys are in luck.
USC announced on Monday afternoon that it has partnered with Fanatics and OneTeam Partners to allow football players to opt into monetizing their jersey sales for the 2022 season.
The deals mark a significant shift in how college athletes are able to be compensated under new name, image and likeness legislations.
NCAA rules previously forbade student athletes from profiting off NIL in order to keep their amateur status. That has since been altered and opened opportunities like that announced by South Carolina on Monday.
Head coach Shane Beamer spoke with reporters shortly before the announcement about the shifting landscape in business deals with college athletes and how that has, if at all, been incorporated into recruiting.
“It’s certainly changing and it’s a lot more on the minds of the young men that we recruit now compared to last year at this time,” Beamer said. “We’re not going to bury our head in the sand and pretend that it’s not an aspect that young men are looking at.
“They’re bringing it up to us in conversations and we tell every prospect that I believe at the University of South Carolina we’re as well situated as any program out there for them to capitalize on opportunities because of this fan base, because we’re the capital of South Carolina, because we don’t compete with pro sports, because, were in the SEC and on and on and on.”
Fans will be able to purchase the personalized jerseys through South Carolina’s official online store that is operated by Fanatics.
